1) Seasonal Invasive Weeds Officer
(ART) is an independent charity, working throughout Ayrshire to improve the sustainable management and conservation of freshwater fisheries through research, education and habitat management.
The trust currently requires a Seasonal Invasive Weeds Officer, to promote the sustainable control of invasive non-native plant species within Ayrshire. ART have entered into an EU part funded project from 2010 – 14, the name of this project is ‘Controlling priority invasive non-native riparian plants and restoring native biodiversity (CIRB)’. ART are looking for a seasonal officer to help deliver the aims of this project during the control months. Key roles include monitoring contractors, awareness raising and control of the invasive non-native species.
The ideal candidate will be physically fit, as they will be lifting heavy equipment, highly motivated, have knowledge or experience working outdoors. Understanding of surveying techniques would be advantageous, but not essential. Good written and oral skills along with a full clean driving license are essential. This position is for a 5 months full-time contract (May – Sep) with a salary of £15,000.00 pro rata.

2) Carrick Invasives Project Officer
- to promote the sustainable control of invasive non-native species within the Carrick area. Included within the project area will be both Girvan and Stinchar catchments and coastal burns surrounding the area. Key roles include engaging and managing volunteers within the communities, awareness raising and control of the invasive non-native species.
The ideal candidate will hold a good degree in an environment or science discipline, with additional relevant work experience. They will be physically fit, as they will be lifting heavy equipment.Good written and oral skills are essential, and experience managing volunteers would be an advantage. This position is for a 2 year full-time contract, beginning in April with a starting salary of £19,000.00 with a 6% pension contribution.

IFM Development Officer
The Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM) is an international based organisation of fisheries professionals sharing a common interest in the modern management of recreational and commercial fisheries. The IFM is dedicated to the advancement of sustainable fisheries management in all its forms.
The IFM is seeking a Development Officer to devise and deliver services and initiatives for the Institute, with the outcome of increasing membership and income. The Development Officer will work with the branches of the Institute and Specialist Sections to organise events, either locally or nationally. The Development Officer will also identify skills and training needs of the fisheries management industry and assist the IFM to ensure provision of suitable training.
The Development Officer will also seek to raise the profile of the Institute in general, but especially with bodies that influence the way that fisheries are managed and will be managed in future. The postholder will expand the IFM’s influence on legislation and policies that affect fisheries management by contributions to stakeholder groups, working groups, responses to consultations and working with other bodies having similar interests.
The person appointed will have excellent communication and networking skills and a technical background in ecology or fisheries that will enable fisheries management issues to be readily understood. Qualification as a Chartered Environmentalist (C.Env) will be an advantage.
Previous experience in sourcing and securing external income would be useful. An essential part of the role will be in generating income by various means including conference organisation, publications and sponsorship.
The position will be full-time on a three year, renewable contract. Location is negotiable, but minimisation of travel will be a consideration. The starting salary will be in the range £25-30k, with the opportunity to earn a performance bonus based on the amount of income generated. There is an annual holiday entitlement of 28 days. A contributory pension may be available.

Strategic Mink Control in Northern Scotland
Mink Control Officer
Position:
The Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland (RAFTS), on behalf of the project partnership of RAFTS, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Wildlife Trust and University of Aberdeen, are seeking applicants for a Mink Control Officer for the Aberdeenshire region. This is a fixed term position that commences in April 2012 and terminates on 31st August 2013.
The project is funded by Scottish Natural Heritage, Tubney Charitable Trust, Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Scottish Government and the European Community Cairngorms, Highland, Moray, Rural Aberdeenshire and Rural Tayside Local Action Groups LEADER 2007-2013 Programme.
The Mink Control Officer will work in rural Aberdeenshire and will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining volunteer networks, coordinating the management of the network of rafts and traps, promoting awareness, building local capacity and monitoring the outcomes and impacts of the project.
Salary is anticipated to be between £22 000 – £26 000 depending on experience.

- Field Assistant: Galloway Fisheries TrustA short term temporary position is available assisting the Project Officer with mainly field and some lab work. This would assist in the delivery of the River Cree Rare Fish Project. Specifically this would be concerned with assisting the monitoring the spawning migration of River Cree sparling (smelt) an anadromous fish species, and helping with hatchery and translocation work and some small experiments.This will involve taking water temperatures, surveying for signs of the beginning of spawning and subsequent sampling of fish. This involves some night work. Life history measurements will be taken from the fish and these will further be used in a conservation translocation to re-introduce this species to a river of former occurrence. - River Bailiff
The Dee District Salmon Fishery Board has a vacancy for the post of River Bailiff. The Dee DSFB is the statutory body responsible for the management of salmon and sea trout in the Rivers Dee, Cowie and Carron. The Dee DSFB is at the forefront of fisheries management in Scotland with an established track record in innovative conservation and enhancement policies.
- Duties of the River bailiff are varied and include: protection of salmon stocks by enforcing current fisheries legislation, conducting practical riparian improvement works, liaison with river users and assisting with scientific data collection. Training for this varied work will be provided. The successful applicant must be able to work as part of the existing team, have good communication skills, possess a knowledge and appreciation of working in an outdoor environment and hold a full driving licence. The Board office is based at Dinnet but the post covers the entire Dee District.
