Galloway education

Education programmes are important aspects of the work programmes of many RAFTS member trusts.

Most notably, the "Salmon in the Classooom" scheme which was started by Galloway Fisheries Trust in 1991 is now delivered across Scotland by many of our members.  This scheme, and its local variations, provides a unique opportunity for childern to learn of the life cycle of salmon and trout inside and outside the classroom.  The hatching of salmon or trout eggs in the classroom aquaria provided provides an ideal focus for the project and captivates children and teaching staff alike.

Further information about and resources to support the project are available at www.snh.org.uk/salmonintheclassroom .

RAFTS is considering how it, and its members, might extend its educational and outreach programmes beyond the "Salmon in the Classroom" project and beyond the primary school environment.

To this end, a study has been offered to tender to:

·         undertake a review of the current educational activities,

·         gather together an assessment of the opportunities and constraints to expanding this provision via selected contact with our members,

·         complete a brief review of selected / identified other programmes which could be learned from, and

·         take forward the development of how a expanded education programme could be delivered by our members so that this could be used in the support of a considered application to external funders.

A link to the tender document is below for your review and consideration and, if you are interested in undertaking this piece of work, look forward to hearing from you.

Should you require further information please contact RAFTS - further contact details are provided in the tender document.
