The Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) and the Lakes Aquarium are excited to announce the opening of a new ‘Restoring Freshwater Mussel Rivers’ exhibit at the Lakes Aquarium, and they are delighted to invite you to the private viewing event which will take place on Thursday 25 February from 16:30-18:00.
The FBA is leading a £1.5 million Biffa Award funded flagship project to give their freshwater mussels a fighting chance of survival. Under the project, Devon Wildlife Trust, North York Moors National Park Authority and South and West Cumbria Rivers Trusts are carrying out mussel surveys, monitoring and catchment restoration activities to improve river habitat with the ultimate aim of reintroducing juvenile mussels reared at the FBA ‘Ark’ to their native rivers. The project also receives backing from Natural England and the Environment Agency.
The new interactive exhibition at the Lakes Aquarium aims to raise awareness of the mussels’ fascinating life cycle and the threats the species faces, and how local communities can work with the FBA and partners to safeguard and restore habitats for this unique animal and our freshwater ecosystems.
If you would like to join them on Thursday 25 February please contact Louise Lavictoire at the FBA (email@example.com). Please note the FBA is unable to cover travel and subsistence costs for this event.
